Our Story
Mitaa was born from a simple yet profound belief: Africa's real economy already lives in its streets, neighbourhoods, townships, villages and emerging commercial spaces. Before looking far for growth, we choose to recognise, support and strengthen what already exists around us. These communities are not peripheral – they are the economy that millions rely on every day.
The name “Mitaa” comes from Swahili and speaks to streets and neighbourhoods – the places where people trade, move, build trust, exchange value and sustain families. From the beginning, Mitaa was imagined as a hub connecting local economic activity, technology, data, partners and community participation into one practical ecosystem. Early work in ICT services, connectivity and underserved‑market environments sharpened this vision, teaching us that internet access alone does not make local traders visible to suppliers, banks, insurers or governments.
Empowering communities through technology and data.
